Governments, NGOs, and multi-lateral organizations (including UNICEF and WHO) were scrutinizing Pfizer’s corporate responsibility (CR) program with a great deal of skepticism following the company’s acquisition of an infant food business. The close monitoring came in spite of Pfizer’s pro-active CR program and support of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In order to communicate Pfizer’s commitment to public health and its contribution to the MDGs to important stakeholders, Strategy XXI compiled, edited and published a comprehensive report entitled, “Innovative Partnerships: Progress Toward Achieving the Millennium Goals.” The report cataloged Pfizer’s CR initiatives worldwide.

The report was presented to heads of state, ministries of health, officials, ambassadors, and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. The report had high impact among these important audiences and was the beginning of a company-wide initiative of issues management, NGO and stakeholder mapping, interaction with governments and briefing of stakeholders with the advice and counsel of Strategy XXI.
