The Legal Action Center
The Legal Action Center (LAC) needed to raise awareness among public officials and the general public in New York State about the problem of "rap sheet" errors - mistakes in criminal records that create barriers to employment, housing and other necessities.
Thanks to a grant to LAC from the Robin Hood Foundation, Strategy XXI was enlisted to orchestrate a major media outreach campaign. We generated extensive coverage of the rap sheet problems in New York City, Syracuse, Albany and Rochester. Highlights included stories in the New York Times, New York Daily News, New York 1 News, the Syracuse Post-Standard, Legislative Gazette (Albany) and Daily Record Rochester), among others.
The media coverage was credited with prompting the introduction of a new bill in the New York State legislature and increasing support for concrete changes.
